Kimbo Slice is an mixed martial arts fighter. He originally was an underground bare-knuckle boxer, appearing in several fight videos online. He is currently being trained by former MMA fighter Bas Rutten in an effort to become a professional fighter.
Kimbo first gained attention as a street brawler. Many of his fights were videotaped and broadcast over the internet. His most notable fight was in 2004 against former police officer Sean Gannon. Gannon defeated Slice amid controversy for being accused of using illegal moves. The popularity of the video led to Gannon fighting for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Slice has his first sanctioned fight in 2007 against Ray Mercer. Slice defeated Mercer with a choke hold in the first round. After the fight, Slice issued a challenge to Tank Abbott, who was in the audience. Abbott accepted the challenge and the two fought on February 16, 2008.
