Daniel Day-Lewis Oscar Acceptance Speech

2nd NE Quadrant\The Approval Matrix: Week of March 10, 2008

British actor Daniel Day-Lewis won the best actor Oscar for his work as a misanthropic turn-of-the-century oil man in “There Will Be Blood.”

Day-Lewis was in a playful mood as he approached the stage, kneeling before presenter Helen Mirren, who won last year for playing the current Queen Elizabeth in “The Queen.”

He limited his thanks mostly to the film’s writer/director, saying the film “sprang like a golden sapling out of the mad, beautiful head of Paul Thomas Anderson.”
